Bistable Display

A display that retains an image without continuous power by settling into one of two stable states.

Bistable display technology is the core mechanism behind E Ink and ePaper panels. A bistable display can maintain a visible image in two distinct states (typically black and white) without requiring continuous electrical power. Energy is only consumed during a state change (i.e., when the image updates). This is what gives E Ink displays their exceptional energy efficiency and why they can run on small batteries or even remain powered without electricity for extended periods.
